The Scientific and Spiritual approaches of energy healing modalities:
A quick look at the different energy healing modalities would immediately reveal a variety of approaches which are sometimes hard to classify. Some healing modalities usually employ a more scientific approach to their healing program. While others readily lean on the spiritual aspect of healing. Some would sometimes combine the two approaches showing a scientific leaning at one time, and a spiritual leaning on other times. Let’s discuss some energy healing modalities to make this point clear.
Take for example the Reiki energy healing which utilizes the hand as an energy conduit: previously the use of palm technique, as first delineated by Mikao Usui—its founder, is more intuitive. Now, the western method promulgated by Hawayo Takato has evolved a more scientific approach in the use of the palm by introducing a set of patterns in internal healing.
Another example is that of the Chakra healing modality which is a highly spiritual approach; though at a second look, the approach is fundamentally based on the scientific idea that everything is reducible to energy.
Here, I am trying to point out the fact that even though one approach seems to be highly spiritual—upon a closer analysis—we could say that it could be very scientific. Furthermore, when those modalities talk of the universal energy, they are basically talking of energy which is truly scientific and spiritual at the same time.
Admittedly, the difference between spiritual and scientific approaches boils down to the belief about the source of sickness. If one believes that the malady of the spirit is mirrored in the physical body, then the source of ailments of the physical body is the spirit; so one has to cure the spirit first. While others believe that sickness is just the blocking of energy flow, and they would endeavor to unblock the flow of physical energy using known scientific and alternative knowledge.
The Common Thread among the energy healing modalities:
The different energy healing modalities usually have a common thread, i.e., that everything is reducible to energy and energy basically has two forms, negative and positive. The negative energy is the culprit in creating imbalance in the otherwise balance system of the person. Thus, most energy healing modalities tend to work on regaining the balance of the spirit by doing away with negative energies.
Moreover, the modalities employ different and varying techniques while operating on the above-mentioned principle of negative and positive energy. The Chakra healing modality, for example, operates on the principle that negative energy has to be pumped out of oneself and replaced by life force by opening the chakras.
The polarity healing modality works by polarizing the negative and positive energies of the body.
Reiki as well operates on the positive energy to overpower the negative energy of the body, and thus bring back the state of equilibrium.
Energy healing modalities Attunement and Equilibrium:
“Before a healer could heal, he has to heal himself first.”
This idea of the healer healing himself first is basically the idea of attunement. The healer should first attune himself to the divine source of positive healing energy, before he could engender healing in another person. Healers are like channels of positive energies, bringing in the desired equilibrium in the sick person.
In the Reiki energy healing for example, practitioners usually transfer the healing of “Ki” (energy) from their palms to the sick person, enabling the sick to regain the state of equilibrium. This presupposes that the practitioner should be so imbued with the “Ki“ to be able to translate the energy to the sick person. He must be attuned to the vibrational energy of the universal source of energy.
Likewise, in Chakra healing, the energy is allowed to flow inside the subtle body attuning it to the positive life force of the Creator.
On the other hand, the practitioner of acupuncture should be also attuned to the positive life force of the “Qi” to be able to facilitate the flow of Qi inside the body.
Thus, akin to all these energy healing modalities are the two concepts: that of attunement and that of equilibrium.
Attunement is necessary on the part of the healer to produce the necessary equilibrium in the sick person. To gain proper attunement to the universal energy, one should get involved in meditation and prayer, which are sure ways to bring about the fine-tuning of our energy and frequency to that of the divine healer.
Equilibrium, on the other hand, is the necessary state to be achieved to have a healthy being.
