Plethora Of Energy Healing Modalities
Many people are often confused as to why there are plenty of energy healing modalities given the fact that these modalities basically deal with the same energy in their process of healing. Sometimes, we can’t help but ask, “Why not synthesize all these energy healing modalities and come up with a universally accepted energy healing modality which everybody could employ in their healing ministry?”
Well, the task seems dauntingly impossible considering the fact that different people have different affiliations and varying preferences.
Recently, we have seen an increase in the number of energy healing modalities, and globalization might have played a major factor in this matter. So let me give you a brief explanation of how globalization brought about the proliferation of energy healing modalities.
Globalization may catalyze the fusion of these different energy healing modalities
The technological advancement in communication and transportation has greatly shrunk the world. What’s happening in Asia is instantaneously known in America and vice versa. The world has basically become a global village. Moreover, indigenous energy healing techniques which have been exclusively kept in specific places and among exclusive groups have been made accessible to everyone through the internet. In fact, we are now privy to previously kept secret modalities of energy healing, and we could choose from the wide array of energy healing techniques online.
The Chakra healing technique, for example, which has been practiced in India and other parts of South Asia has now permeated America, Europe and other parts of the globe.
Likewise, the Reiki healing method and Shiatsu massage, which were exclusively popular in Japan, have made it’s way to other parts of the world. In fact, globalization has made possible the fusion of some of these healing modalities.
Acupuncture which was widely popular in China is now widely accepted throughout the world and sometimes employed together with other healing modalities.
We may be in the threshold of some evolutionary fusions of these energy healing modalities.
Who knows maybe sometime in the future, we may come up with a universal energy healing modality to cure all our physical and emotional imbalances and sicknesses.
Traditional and Modern ways of handing down Energy Healing Modalities:
In the ancient tradition, healing techniques were usually handed down to from one person to another person by means of an apprenticeship. A master chose a group of faithful disciples who he thought had the penchant for continuing the practice of his healing modality, and then he gradually initiated them to the healing technique. These selected few ensured the continuity of the know-how and practice of his technique.
These days, apprenticeship is still practiced, but it is slowly superseded by standardized training programs.
Unlike in the ancient times, the popularity of certain techniques is no longer limited to a particular place. People from all over the globe usually would flock around a well-known healer, and would willingly learn from him the technique. Moreover, the learning of the various energy healing modalities has been highly standardized. Thus, apprenticeship has often given way to more standardized training programs.
Furthermore, worldwide organizations sometimes are established to accommodate people from diverse cultures and races, and in turn they bring the practice of the technique back to their own countries. Likewise, certifications are given out to graduates of these standardized programs to vouch for the completion of the training.
However, there is a danger in large standardized training programs. Some trainees may not be able to cope with the training program and may not readily grasp the totality of the healing technique. Yet, they often receive the certificate and thus may compromise the quality of the program. While in apprenticeship, a student is gradually led by the master or a guru to the understanding and assimilation of the healing technique, with his master having so much consideration of the natural ability of the apprentice to absorb the technique. Besides, the apprenticeship training is usually conducted over a non-specified long period of time and on a one-on-one basis. The apprentice progresses on his own pace toward the full assimilation of the technique.
Thus, comparing both the apprenticeship and standardized programs, I would say that in standardized programs, quality is sometimes sacrificed in favor of quantity.
